I sure hope someone will benefit from my findings. Alsoft has been making disk utilities for the Mac over 20 years. The hardware monitoring can also be run manually if you suspect a drive malfunction. External drives have it because they can be moved. DiskWarrior can be configured to automatically check drives for possible drive malfunction, giving you the chance to back up your data before a drive completely fails. Then, pull on the bezel ind it comes right off. The diskwarrior is eitherThe earliest Intel system is 10.4.4, and thats relatively old (about 1.5 years ago). Even where an OS would change (ie: 10.4.9 to 10.4.10), DiskWarrior is still v. I have a G4 power PC Mac 10.4.10, and an intel Imac 10.4.9 and both diskwarrior and techtool work with these Macs. Instead of techtool 4 launching, the Mac OSX login window appears. I click on restart and hold down the C key until the spinning gear is on the screen. ![]() On step 3 of the procedure, when it is time to release the bezel latch using a card, press the bezel tightly in order to reduce the pressure on the latch before releasing it with the card. Long story, but a series of oddities sort of forced me to try 10.4.10. Launching Techtool 4 intel presents another issue. There is however a small note I would like to share with all of you. disk warrior 4.0 or 4.1 and os is tiger 10.2.4 as it comes on the install disks. I followed the procedure for hard drive replacement on this site and had no real issues. The minimum Apple could have done would have been to provide advanced warning of a possible incompatibility issue between hard drives and the 10.6 Mac OS X. There is a definite possibility however that I could have saved my original drive by marking the sectors as defective using software like Drive Genius 3. I thus replaced my original 250 GB with a 500 GB drive and did a clean install from scratch. However, if one wants to be a purist, of course DiskWarrior doesnt repair drives and neither do the rest of the mentioned utilities. ![]() ![]() I found that a small disk error (bad sector) that can be corrected under 10.4 and 10.5 becomes a catastrophe under 10.6 due to the new structure for gaining maximum disk space. Both 10.4 and 10.5 work great on my machine but 10.6 fails with unrepairable disk errors. All Mac models meeting the system requirements for DiskWarrior can be started from the DVD. This DVD is a universal startup DVD that can start up both PowerPC and Intel Macs. I own an intel iMac 20 inch EMC 2118 and had a hard time installing Snow Leopard. DiskWarrior 4 version 4.4 is now available on DiskWarrior DVD revision 1109.
